Each week The Autism Society recognizes a particular Affiliate that has done great work in promoting our mission of improving the lives of all affected by autism. This week, we would like to recognize The Autism Society of Greater New Orleans for the incredible work they do!
This month they will be hosting a variety of events, including a family game night aimed at assisting In cognitive development, as well as creating a welcoming and fun environment for all involved. ASGNO has also been hard at work with the recent flooding in Louisiana. They were able to purchase equipment and supplies needed to assemble and distribute 27 sensory kits, 15 weighted blankets, 4 iPads, as well as clothing and other essential items to families living with autism who were affected by the floods. The sensory kits included noise-cancelling headphones, stress balls, fidget toys, a soft and fuzzy throw, playdoh, and other items that could be used as calming tools. They were also able to establish a working relationship with Red Cross which allowed them to not only provide sensory kits to families temporarily residing in shelters but also provide equipment for a sensory room to be setup in one of the major Red Cross shelters.
We want to thank the Autism Society of greater new Orleans for all the incredible, hard work they are doing to improve the lives of all affected by autism!
