The Central Indiana Chapter is a national Chapter of the Autism Society of America, which is based in Bethesda, MD and the Autism Society of Indiana. The Autism Society of America was founded in 1965 by a small group of parents working on a volunteer basis out of their homes. Over the last 35 years, the Society has developed into the leading source of information and referral on autism. Today, over 20,000 members are connected through a working network of over 200 chapters in nearly every state. Membership in ASA continues to grow as more and more parents and professionals unite to form a collective voice representing the autism community.
The Central Indiana Chapter-ASA was founded in 1976. Its unique significance to Indiana is that it’s a strong voice of advocacy within the local Autism Community in Central Indiana. With its mission to promote lifelong access and opportunity for all individuals within the autism spectrum, and their families, to be fully participating, included members of their community. Education, advocacy at state and federal levels, active public awareness and the promotion of research form the cornerstones of ASA's efforts to carry forth its mission, the CIC-ASA is a significant player and contributor to its membership and community. The CIC-ASA is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization.
