March 17th РTransitioning to adulthood. (Cancelled due to the weather)  we will re-schedule

with Rhonda Greenhaw from Towson Hussman Center for Adults with Autism

April – Autism Awareness Month

Thank you to everyone who has written to the members of the House
Ways and Means Committee requesting a vote on HB 1198 – Special
Education Burden of Proof. We held a press conference today to further
pressure our legislators to vote. We were thrilled to hear that the
delegates have received our message loud and clear; the pressure to
bring the bill to a vote is strong. However, the opponents of the bill
are trying to add amendments that would essentially gut it.
One such amendment would change the “burden of proof” to a “burden of
production” on school districts, but parents would still bear the ultimate burden of persuading the hearing officer that the school’s actions were wrong. This would be a minuscule change from existing law. It would do
nothing to help parents with the huge imbalance of resources and
expertise that make it so difficult to meet their burden of persuasion
in due process proceedings. Please write to the members of the House
Ways and Means Committee, and also to all of the delegates in your own
legislative district, one more time, to urge them to request a vote on
HB 1198–Special Education, Burden of Proof, WITHOUT AMENDMENTS.
