Autism Society Calls for Action on Budget Crisis
November 29, 2012
By Autism Society
After a briefing with President Barack Obama, the Autism Society yesterday renewed its call for all autism advocates to take action regarding the the fiscal cliff. Contact your representatives today and tell them how you and your community will be affected if Congress does not arrive at a solution before December 31.
The fiscal cliff is the term for the impending fiscal crisis facing the federal government on December 31, when close to $500 billion in tax savings will end through the expiration of previously approved tax cuts. Simultaneously, the Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA) will take effect resulting in $500 billion in legislatively mandated cuts.
The Autism Society was present yesterday as the president called on Americans to contact their representatives and explain how they will be personally affected when these tax cuts expire at the year’s end. He said 98 percent of Americans will pay $2,200 more in taxes next year if Congress does not agree on a viable solution.
Contact your representatives in Congress today and explain how the fiscal cliff would affect you, your family and your community. The Autism Society firmly believes any conversation regarding a solution to the fiscal cliff must include those affected by disabilities.
