North Carolina House Bill 498
June 14, 2013
By Autism Society
If you live in North Carolina, we need your help. Thru the great efforts of the Autism Society of North Carolina and other autism organizations, NC House Bill 498, Autism Health Insurance Coverage, passed the North Carolina House by a resounding 105-7 approval and was sent to the NC Senate Insurance Committee.
The bill is now stalled in the Senate Insurance Committee and a hearing has yet to be scheduled. The Autism Society of North Carolina and other autism advocates have been working together tirelessly to request a hearing for weeks. The session is winding down quickly and we are now asking for you to once again take action and let your voice be heard.
If you live in North Carolina, we need for you to contact your North Carolina General Assembly Senator today and/or over the weekend when they are home and in your district. We suggest that you do the following:
· Let them know you are contacting them as a constituent because you live and/or work in their district.
· Share that you have a child on the autism spectrum, care about someone with autism, or are on the spectrum yourself, and support HB 498: Autism Health Insurance Coverage.
· Share a short version of your story about how autism has touched your life.
· Ask them to tell the Senate Leadership and Senate Insurance Committee Chair to schedule a hearing on HB 498 during this session.
Be courteous and positive in your communications, regardless of the response.
If you do not know which North Carolina General Assembly Senator represents you, contact the Autism Society of North Carolina
