Autism Society Appoints New President & Chief Operating Officer
Scott Badesch appointed to bring organization to a heightened level of service
(Bethesda, MD) – July 14, 2011 — The Autism Society is pleased to announce the immediate appointment of Scott Badesch as President and Chief Operating Officer. A father of a young adult with autism, Badesch led his local Autism Society chapter before joining the national office in 2010 as Senior Vice President of Development and Operations. Badesch has more than 30 years of experience in nonprofit organizations, particularly in fundraising, chapter outreach, advocacy and public policy, and transformation of organizations.
"Scott has demonstrated he is passionate, dedicated and extremely skilled to do the work that lies ahead for the Autism Society, the largest grassroots autism organization in the United States,” said Jim Ball, Chair, Autism Society Board of Directors. “In Scott, we have a proven leader who can lead the Autism Society to improve the lives of even more individuals at a time of rapidly increasing diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders.”
Before joining the Autism Society national office, Badesch served as President and CEO of the Autism Society of North Carolina. Other experience includes 14 years as President and CEO of the United Way of Palm Beach County, and six years as President and CEO of the United Way of South Carolina. Badesch lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, and has four children.
ABOUT AUTISM:
Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a “spectrum disorder” that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.
ABOUT THE AUTISM SOCIETY:
Founded in 1965, the Autism Society, the nation’s leading grassroots autism organization, exists to improve the lives of all affected by autism. We do this by increasing public awareness about the day-to-day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education and research. The Society maintains a strong nationwide network of chapters to provide support and grassroots advocacy at local, state and federal levels.
