Kerry
I'm on the spectrum
My early years with autism were very difficult. I had low self-esteem, and was very emotional. My doctor diagnosed me when I was 4 years old.
However, one of the things that I’ve learned about autism over the years is that it’s not a weakness unless you let it become one. One of the clear examples of this was in high school when I turned my passion for working hard in basketball into working hard to get good grades.
This hard work has taken me to Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. I am majoring in accounting and sports management. I am proud of what I have accomplished in high school (captain of the basketball and tennis teams, student council president, lead in the school play, math and citizenship awards) and also proud of what I have accomplished so far in college (student newspaper sports writer, freshman student council and membership in the Leadership Studies Program).
I can’t wait to see what other challenges lay ahead!
