Staff steps up to help the cause
When Ron Alaspa of Sports City Café reconnected with some old friends and found out that their child had been diagnosed with autism, he knew he wanted to get involved with the cause. Listening to the “Lex and Terry” radio show in his hometown of Dallas, he heard about the second annual Ticket to Ride-Dallas, a motorcycle benefit for the Autism Society taking place just five minutes from Sports City Café, the restaurant where he is the general manager. “I just called up and inquired to see if there was anything we could do at Sports City Café to support the event,” he said.
Thanks to Ron's initiative and the dedication of the rest of the restaurant’s workers, Sports City Café’s Mesquite location provided food, beverage and staff for the event, and also hosted the after party. The upscale sports-themed restaurant also has locations in The Colony, Rowlett, and Durant, Oklahoma.
The whole staff of the Mesquite Sports City Café really came together to support this important cause. The impact the event had on everyone working at the restaurant “was one that will stay with all of us for the rest of our lives,” said Ron. “Some Facebook postings I have seen from staff as well as guests who were in attendance, along with the emails and text messages, have been very touching.”
“The whole experience was really feel-good - I was able to help something that I really care about, and it helped open the eyes of our staff too,” Ron said. “They really made it happen - I can’t say enough good things about them.”
